Which 2009 NBA teams will make it to the playoffs?

Well, your guess is as good as mine. I have been keeping track of the 2009 NBA Playoffs Schedule and has been following the recent games of the NBA regular season and to this date, it's safe to say the top teams for both conferences.

In West the top 5 teams that will surely make it to the playoffs are:
1. L.A. Lakers 48-11
2. San Antonio 39-18
3. Denver 39-20
4. Houston 37-21
5. Portland 36-22

New Orleans 35-22, Utah 35-23, and Dallas 35 23 are on 6th to 8th place respectively.

Lets move on to the Eastern Conference, with there own top 8 teams:
1. Cleveland 45-12
2. Boston 47-13
3. Orlando 42-16
4. Atlanta 33-25
5. Miami 30-27

Philadelphia 29-28, Detroit 28-29, and Milwaukee 28-33 are on 6th to 8th place respectively.

Before leaving for London, Pacquiao is taking a long deserved rest at one of the best hotel in Makati city prior to getting on the plane for his flight abroad to meet all the “appearance commitments”. Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton Fight Winner Prediction

The boxing world has been talking about the much anticipated clash of 2 of the most exciting boxers of the world today, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton. Boxing analysts and sports writers are already predicting the winner of the fight.

Gerry Balasta, of 8countnews.com, predicted Pacquiao would be successful in knocking down Hatton. Jake Roberts, meanwhile, foresees a Hatton win by way of knockout in the later rounds. He said Hatton has the aggressive and strength to make the Filipino boxing hero kiss the canvas.

Before I make my predictions, lets take some things into consideration first. Speed, power, stamina, the ability to receive punches, footwork, and the fight plan. I say Pacman has an edge on Hatton when it comes to speed and the ability to get out of the punches. Hatton on the other hand is stronger and he can take some punches of his opponents on the division. When it comes to fight plan, I know Hatton's camp will work something out for Pacman's speed but I'm sure Roach will be ready for this.

Pacquiao has an advantage going into this fight, so i say Pacman will win. Its all about speed and power, and pacman has the edge on both aspects. Stamina will not affect pacman much as what other sports writers are saying. He can last 12 rounds of punching power boxing as seen in his previous matches. Hatton will receive more punching power and I doubt if he can last up to 12 rounds especially if the beating comes from the Pacman.

Here's another interesting movie I found in Internet Movie Database. This movie is based on two books "E" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" by Sophie Kinsella. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a 25 year old who lives with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) in Suze's flat (paying her friend rent that is well below market value), in a trendy part of town. Rebecca has a very boring job writing for a financial magazine. She has a shopping addiction and her crap job doesn't pay enough. Her bills are piling up, so she tries cutting back (complete fiasco), then she tries making more money (another fiasco). Eventually, Becky discovers a story that she is truly invested in. Exposing the story gets the attention of a colleague that she hasn't quite figured out yet. Some drama ensues as she snags the guy, and she attempts to pay off her ever-growing debt.

Struggling with her debilitating obsession with shopping and the sudden collapse of her income source, Rebecca Bloomwood unintentionally lands a job writing for a financial magazine after a drunken letter-mailing mix-up. Ironically writing about the very consumer caution of which she herself has not abided, Rebecca's innovative comparisons and unconventional metaphors for economics grants her critical acclaim, public success, and the admiration of her supportive boss Luke. But as she draws closer to her ultimate goal of writing for renowned fashion magazine Alette, she questions her true ambitions and must determine if overcoming her "shopaholic" condition will bring her real happiness.

UFC 95: Sanchez versus Stevenson Live Stream Online

Jommy Teotico: First Pinoy Fear Factor Winner

Pinoy Fear Factor, a franchise reality show which started airing in the Filipino TV network ABS-CBN on the 10th of November, 2008, is based on the reality game show that originated from the Netherlands entitled “Now or Neverland” which is produced by Endemol. Pinoy Fear Factor is being hosted by Ryan Argoncillo, a famous Filipino actor and TV host. The Philippines used the location of Buenos Aires, Argentina for the Pinoy Fear Factor, and is the 30th country to use it as the location for the series. South Africa and Serbia are the locations for the other hubs of Fear Factor.

Although the Philippines has been planned to serve as the next Fear Factor hub in the world by the Philippine producers, it was still decided that the first series of the Pinoy Fear Factor be shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where resources for the series and stunt experts are available without any difficulty.

As what most people haven't expected, Jommy Teotico from Manila is the first Pinoy Fear Factor Winner who's 5.4m car farther than the 2nd placer Janna Dominguez who got 17.1m compared to Jommy's 22.5m landing in the El Ultimo Duelo and was awarded the first El Ultimo Participante.

UFC 95 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event which will be held at The O2Arena in London, England on the 21st of February, 2009, 9 P.M. (ET/PT) . The complete title of the event is UFC 95: Sanchez vs. Stevenson, having the fight between the United States fighters Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez and Joe “Daddy” Stevenson as its main event. The event will be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, a U.SS.-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization that is currently recognized as the biggest MMA promotion worldwide. UFC 95 Live Stream Online will be broadcast for free on the American cable network Spike.

Some fighters who were bound to fight for the UFC 95 event were replaced: Justin McCully (U.S.) was replaced by Mike Ciesnolevicz (U.S.); Justin Buchholz (U.S.) was replaced by Brian Cobb (U.S.); and David Baron (France) was replaced by Evan Dunham (U.S.). 81st Oscar Academy Awards Live Online Streaming - Anyone?

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held at a private dinner on May 16, 1929 at Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood, hosted by actor Douglas Fairbanks and director William C. DeMille, with an audience of less than 250 people.To be qualified in the Academy Awards, a film must open in the previous calendar year, starting from midnight of January 1st, until the midnight at the end of December 31st in Los Angeles County, California.

Made of gold-plated britannium standing on a black metal base, it represents a knight holding crusader's sword depicted in Art Deco style, standing on a reel of film having five spokes (which represents the Academy's original branches, namely the Actors, Directors, Producers, Writers and Technicians).

At first, the nomination results were announced publicly in early February, and since 2004, the results were announced in late January. The 81st Oscar Academy Awards will recognize and honor its selection among the best films made in 2008. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California and will be broadcast in the ABC network. 2009 NBA D-League Dream Factory All-Star Game

The NBA D-League Dream Factory All-Star Game is a groundbreaking skills competition patterned after the popular NBA All-Star Saturday Night. The NBA Development League Dream Factory All-Star Game features three events. First is the H.O.R.S.E., wherein each round is capped at 5 minutes, and uses a 24-second shot clock. A player mimics the shot made by another player, and is given a letter (for ex. “H”) if the first shot is missed, until he misses the five shots and spells the word “HORSE”. Next is the Slam Dunk Contest, which consists of two rounds of two dunks each, beginning with each dunker giving his two best dunks and choosing a fan from the audience to choose the first dunk to be performed in the first round. Scores will be tallied for each dunker and the ones with the highest scores will compete in the championship.

The last game in the NBA Development League Dream Factory All-Star Game is the Three-Point Shootout, wherein each player will have 60 seconds to sink up to 21 three-pointers from seven stations for shooting (each of which will have 2 orange balls for 1 point, and one “money ball” for two points) placed around the three-point line. The “money ball” will be shot only if both orange balls have been shot.

In the 2009 D-League Dream Factory All-Star Game, James White (Anaheim Arsenal) got the Slam Dunk Contest off to a great start and scored a perfect 100 points, closing the round with a full-court windmill jam. In H.O.R.S.E., Will Conroy (Albuquerque Thunderbirds) dethroned Lance Allred, winning with a through-the-legs-off-the-backboard lay-up. In the Three-Point Shootout, Blake Ahearn (Dakota Wizards) scored 22 to 19 against Rio Grande Valleys' Ernest Scott.

The 2009 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

The NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Contest is the NBA's (National Basketball Association) annual competition sponsored by Sprite, the official softdrink of the league since 1994 and the world's leading lemon-lime softdrink. In the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, players display their various athletic and creative skills in dunking, trying to “out-dunk” each other. The particular rules of this contest is being decided annually, but it is being judged arbitrarily. The players of the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest are awarded a mark out of 10 from 5 judges after each dunk displayed (making 50 as the highest possible score). Normal rules pertaining to double dribbling and traveling do not apply in this kind of competition.

The 2009 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Contest was held at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona during the NBA All-Star Game on February 14, 2009. In the competition, Nate Robinson, guard of the New York Knicks, beat the defending champion Dwight Howard (of Orlando Magic, center) in the league's exciting Slam Dunk competition on Saturday.

Robinson won 52 percent of the fans' votes. Wearing the all-green uniform of the New York Knicks, the 5-foot-9 guard used the 6-foot-11 center as a “prop” for his final dunk, jumping over him to make the shot. Howard's last dunk was a reverse alley-oop off the bounce, using his “prop” as the springboard. Denver Nugget's J.R. Smith (the last-minute replacement of Rudy Gay for an injury in the hip flexor) had his teammate Sonny Weems go eight rows up and throw an alley-oop that Smith caught and put it in a two-handed slam dunk. Portland Trail Blazers' Rudy Fernandez had Laker's All-Star Pau Gasol assist him in his second dunk, instead of using a player from his own team.

The 2009 McDonald Celebrity All-Star Game

The Celebrity All-Star Game is an event in the NBA All-Star weekend wherein many different celebrities will be selected (like actors and singers) to play in the competition. In the Celebrity All-Star Game, these selected celebrities and artists will be playing against each other in an East Vs. West type of game. Each of the teams in the Celebrity All-Star Game will get one WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) player who gets to play in their respective teams. This competition is considered as one of the two exhibition games held on the NBA All-Star weekend, along with the Rookie Challenge Competition, wherein selected rookies/first year players compete with selected sophomores/second year players of the NBA league.

The 2009 McDonald Celebrity All-Star Game was held at the U.S. Airway Center on February 13, 2009 (7:00 p.m. EST/5:00 p.m. MST). The event was sponsored by McDonald's and was broadcast by ESPN. The participants in the game were Clyde Dexter (NBA legend), Dominique Wilkins (NBA legend), Chris Tucker (Actor/Comedian), James Denton (Desperate Housewives), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Terrell Owens (Dallas Cowboys receiver), Zach Levi (Chuck), Michael Rapaport (Prison Break), Dan Majerle (Phoenix Suns legend), Rick Fox (L.A. Lakers legend), Lisa Leslie (L.A. Sparks), Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs), “Wildkat” Edgerson (Harlem Globetrotters), “Special K” Daley (Harlem Globetrotters), “Scooter” Christensen (Harlem Globetrotters), “Handles” Franklin (Harlem Globetrotters).

The coaches for the event were Magic Johnson and Julius Erving. The Harlem Globetrotters performed the “Magic Circle Art” at half time. Terrell Owens grasped the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy as he led his team, the East Sunrisers, to a 3-point gap win over their competitor, the West Sunsetters. The East Sunrisers scored 60 points, while the West Sunsetters got 57 points.

Kobe-Shaq Duo Lead The West to All-Star Victory

After almost 5 years before Kobe and Shaq wear the same uniform. And just like the old times together, they were unstoppable!

Kobe led all scorers with 27 points, shared by O'Neal with 17 points in just 11 minutes to win the 2009 NBA All-Star Game and share the game MVP award.

"It felt like flashbacks," O'Neal said during an interview. "It felt like '99 to '02."

Amare Stoudemire scored 19 points, while Roy, Parker, Gasol and Chris Paul all scored 14 points to help the team.

"We wanted to be aggressive," Bryant said. "We talked about it before going out there, we wanted to play. We lost last year and we wanted to make sure we came out here and played the game hard, come out here with a win."

LeBron James led the East with 20 points. Paul Pierce and Dwyane Wade each scored 18. And Dwight Howard contributed 3 steals, 3 block, 9 rebounds and 13 points but it was not enough to beat the West 146-119.

President's Day 2009: Washington's Birthday

Presidents' Day is a United States federal holiday celebrated every third Monday of February. It was originally implemented by the United States of America federal government in honor of President George Washington. The holiday was originally called “Washington's Birthday” and specially celebrated on the exact day of his birth - February 22. In 1971, the celebration was shifted to the third Monday of February in accordance to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

By late 1980's, the theme has expanded its focus of the holiday in honor of another president also born in February named Abraham Lincoln, until all other US Presidents were commemorated in this celebration.

Today, in celebration of President's Day 2009, corporate businesses are universally close to allow employees a chance to celebrate the holiday. 2009 NBA Cares All-Star Day: Because Real Athletes Care

The NBA Cares is the National Basketball Association's global outreach program that addresses essential social issues not only in the United States, but throughout the world as well. Through the NBA Cares program, the league, along with its various teams and players, raise and contribute $100 Million for charity, give more than a million hours worth of hands-on voluntary services to different communities, and also make hundreds of places where children and families can learn, play and live as well. Since the program's official launching in October 18, 2005, it has already raised more than $97 million for charity, it has given more than 800,000 hours of voluntary community service, and it has made more than 350 places for children and families worldwide. The 2009 NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service, which will be held on the 13th of February, 2009, will be hosted by the “Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun”, which is part of the “Rebuilding Together”, a large, non-profit organization in the U.S. that aims to promote affordable homeownership and restore different neighborhoods in the country. This event will be joined by NBA All-Stars and other volunteers for the program, and they will assist in restoring the Central City South neighborhood. These volunteers will be painting and re-establishing five homes occupying 2 blocks along Pima Street. The neighborhood is located in Phoenix, Arizona, where the 2009 NBA All-Star Game will be held on the 15th of February.

Pacquiao vs Hatton - The Fight is On!

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao the reigning pound-for-pound king of the ring will once again try to set another milestone in his career as he collides with Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton.

Pacquiao will be entering a new territory when he faces Hatton, who is considered the king of the 140-lbs division. He will have to go down to Hatton's turf from 147 lbs.

Pacquiao was the first Filipino to win in three divisions in a single year. He defeated Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez at 130 lbs and then David Diaz at 135 lbs.

The report said Arum had confirmed Pacquiao agreed to a 52-48 split in his favor and a $12 million guaranteed purse.

The latest agreement was to hold the action packed face-off at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2, 2009.

UFC 94 Results

Last Saturday night, January 31, 2009 held UFC 94 “Epic Battle of Champions” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It was the most awaited rematch fight in the history of MMA where it resulted to the victory of Georges St. Pierre against BJ Penn making the former retained his UFC Welterweight title while the latter remained to his weight class empty handed.

St. Pierre battered and bruised Penn throughout the fight and after the fourth round of complete domination Penn's corner decided to quit. The 27 -year old, 170 lbs fighter Georges St. Pierre is now the Best Welterweight Champion and the Best MMA Fighter in the world carrying with him a record of 18-2.

The UFC 94 also featured the light heavyweight match between two undefeated fighters namely Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva, which results to a knocked out on the latter at the end of the first round. Other main fight card results showed Clay Guida who earned a split decision after a 3-round battle with Nate Diaz; Karo Parisyan who won a split decision over Korean Dong Hyum Kim and Jon Jones who won a unanimous decision over Stephan Bonnar.

It was a great night for the newly hailed champions and even more so for the MMA fans. However on BJ Penn UFC 94 Post Fight interview he said that GSP was going to be his last fight but he also added that his decision might change from time to time.

The Phoenix NBA All Star 2009

For the third time, Phoenix will host the NBA All Star 2009. With the usual All-star Game, the Rookie Challenge and the much awaited Slam Dunk Contest, fans are desperately holding on to their seats awaiting the day of the event.

Playing for the NBA All Star Game 2009 are Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Amar'e Stoudeire, Tim Duncan and Yao Ming with Phil Jackson as coach for the Western Conference All Stars. And for the Eastern part, Allen Iverson, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, and Dwight Howard will play with coach Mike Brown. The Eastern All Stars have three first timers in the event while the Western All Stars opted more for experienced players.

As for the rookie challenge for the NBA All Star Games 2009, Wade and Howard will be coaching the rookies and sophomores, respectively. It is quite interesting to note that the Sophomores only have one center in the persona of Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks as opposed to Gasol, Lopez and Oden for the Rookies. Does this mean that Horford's experience can and will outplay the three centers of the fresh meats?

For the highlight of the Phoenix NBA All Star Games 2009, the slam dunk event, Howard, Robinson, Gay and Fernandez will try to wow the crowd with tricks that they have prepared in their jerseys. One question holds the fans wondering, will Robinson's 5'9” height bring some disadvantages in the exhibition? Or, will it put the other taller players to shame?
There's only one answer to all of the the questions that curious basketball fanatics have over the roster of players in the NBA All Star match, and it's all available on the 15th of February if they just open a beer or two and enjoy what is in store for them.

Oscar Awards 2009: 81st Annual Academy Awards

Amidst the crisis that the movie industry is undergoing, the 81st Annual Academy Oscar Awards 2009 is set to air on February 22, after the nominees were cast last month. Though a lot of people were in doubt of how the event would push through after the Screen Actors Guild casted a strike authorization allowing actors to go on strike, the awarding ceremony would happen earlier than expected.

The Oscar Awards 2009 has an interesting roster of nominees. A big name maker last year, Heath Ledger, for his rendition of Joker in The Dark Night that overshadowed the lead actor Christian Bale (who did not get any nomination, by the way) and the young actor's (Ledger) untimely death, got a nomination for best supporting actor. Also, buzz maker Angelina Jolie got a best actress nomination for her movie Changeling while Brad Pitt's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button got him a best actor nomination. Pitt's film also earned a lot of nominations in the best picture, best director, best adopted screenplay, and other categories. Jolie's two movies, the Changeling and the animation movie Kung Fu Panda, also got their share of nominations in this year's award ceremony.

All are expecting what will happen in the 81st Annual Academy Awards this year. This will test how movies and the thrill of award giving ceremonies can divert people's attention from the current financial and Hollywood crises.
