2009 VMA Nominees | Watch MTV VMA 2009 Live

This years nominees for the MTV VMAs 2009 live prove that girl power is still as strong as ever, with Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears having a whopping 25 nominations between them. Beyonce and Lady Gaga top the chart with nine nominations each. Both artists could be in for a very busy night as they are also both due to perform on the show.

Beyonce is hoping to clean up with her hip-swaying video ‘Single Ladies (should of put a ring on it)’, which is in the running for video of the year and female video of the year.

Lady Gaga will be relying on her hit singles ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Paparazzi’ to out shine her rivals. She is also one of the front runners in the best new artist category.

Britney Spears will be delighted to be nominated for seven awards after the troubled couple of years she has endured. She will be hoping ‘Womanizer’ and ‘Circus’ help make her comeback complete.

Among others stars performing that are up for awards are American rockers Green Day with ‘21 guns’ in the best rock video category. The band are no strangers to winning awards for their music but don’t think their acceptance speeches will be winning any awards.

Jay-Z must be feeling confident about coming out on top in the best male video category with his brilliant ‘D.O.A.- (death of auto-tune)’ but will be against stiff opposition in the shape of Eminem, Kayne West, T.I. and Ne-Yo.

Also performing on the bill is Pink who has been nominated for the best female video with ‘So what’. She is up against some of the biggest selling artists of the year though, with Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonce

Eminem has had a quiet year by his standards, but has still been nominated in four categories for the track ‘We made you’. His nominations include best video, best male video & best Hip-Hop video of the year.

The categories that are usually the hardest to predict are best new artist and breakthrough video. Best new artist’s at this years VMA include 30H!3, Lady gaga, Kid Cudi, Drake and Asher Roth. Whilst the breakthrough category includes Death Cab For Cutie, Gnarls Barkley, Anjulie, Cold War Kids, Chairlift, Bat For Lashes, Major Lazer, Passion Pit, Matt & Kim and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s.

The most intriguing award of the night though will be for the best video (that will win a moonman). These include some of the biggest artists in the world, U2, Dr Dre, Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to name but a few.

Watch VMA 2009 Live at 9pm ET on Sunday 13 September 2009 to see the outcome.
