It has been a while since Sergei Dzinziruk fought inside the ring. The last time he fought was when he pounded Joel Julio away to a unanimous decision victory in their twelve round bout last November 2008. He had legal troubles with his German promotional company Universum, which prevented him from joining any matches. After finally getting released from his German promoters, he was able to sign up with promoter Gary Shaw in a renewed effort to make a bigger name for himself. He’s doing that by getting bigger fights inside the United States and against top boxers in his weight class. Initially, Sherzod Husanov was supposed to be the challenger, but since he couldn’t get a US visa in time for the fight, Daniel Dawson was set as a last-minute replacement.

Daniel Dawson, on the other hand, has only once loss on his record. He got it when he fought Daniel Geale last 2005, where the judges were unanimous in giving the victory to the latter. He did make up for that defeat, winning in all his succeeding fights. However, all his opponents are not really top-ranked, and all of these happened in his home country of Australia. This will be his biggest fight yet, in a foreign country and against a seasoned slugger. How he will perform inside the ring remains to be seen, but it won’t come as a surprise if he kisses the canvass at least once.
